WIRRAWILLA RAINFOREST WALK

  • Wirrawilla Rainforest Walk Quarry Rd Toolangi VIC Australia (map)

Join me as I explore the wonderful Wirrawilla Rainforest Walk. It is a very easy walk across a boardwalk in a 1 km loop. If you decide to join us, here are some suggestions, based on my last experience there:

  • Bring a tripod if you have one. The forest lighting is subdued, so longer exposures are a must.

  • If you have it, bring a telephoto zoom lens. Because you are restricted to the boardwalk, you will find one of these more useful than carrying a bundle of other lenses.

  • Be prepared to take your time. There is much to see in this short walk. By standing and looking around, you will spot all sorts of plants, fungi, tree shapes, flowing creeks, and even some birdlife (although I don’t have much luck with the twitchers).

  • Getting there early also avoids the problems associated with dappled sunlight through the trees. An even light is really helpful here.

TO GET THERE:

Drive through the Healesville township, turn left at the St Leonard’s Rd/Myers Creek Rd, past the turnoff for the Mt St Leonard viewing platform, right into Sylvia Creek Rd for 5 km, and then turn right into Quarry Rd (a dirt road). There is a sign on Sylvia Creek Rd - watch out for it!
